Five training camp practices in, several of Travis Hunter's Jacksonville Jaguars teammates and coaches have shared their initial impressions of what they've seen from him since his return from injury.
Hunter has routinely bounced back and forth between cornerback and wide receiver, playing 41 snaps on defense during the 11-on-11 periods and 28 on offense, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.
During Sunday's practice, Hunter generated two explosive plays on offense in the passing game, and also came up with an interception at cornerback.
CB Jourdan Lewis
"I told him yesterday, he's a beast, man. Going back and forth. You got Camp two times, man. You got to do it as a receiver in a corner. And I think he's handled it really well, man. I haven't seen it going full-time
on both sides, and I think he's doing an excellent job of it. He's taking the coaching on defense, the techniques. I mean, it's definitely different than last year. It's very technical as far as corner play. And I think he's doing a really good job of it, taking it in stride. And of course, we all know he's the exceptional athlete that he is. Just his mind, it impresses me. Just being able to do it all and understand where he needs to be mentally."
WR Jakobi Meyers
"I just like watching him play," Meyers said on Sunday. "I've been watching him, I feel like everybody been watching him. He like the country son, you know what I mean? So we all just kind of watching him grow up as a man. And I just think he a really good dude, honestly. Like he fun to be around. He always enjoy your energy. Always laughing, always smiling. So it's hard to be upset when he in the room and it's hard to be upset when he on the field. Like so we winning when he good."
CB Montaric Brown
"It's been great seeing him getting work on both sides of the ball," Brown said, via 1010XL. "He's an alien freak. Freak athlete and it's just crazy seeing him one play on offense and then next play on defense, man. It's unbelievable. But he's doing great and he's going to continue to do what he's gotta do and I'm excited to see him play."
Grant Udinski
"The deep reception was awesome to see," offensive coordinator Grant Udinski said after practice. "It's great to get him back out there with the guys. He has such an infectious energy that if affects not just the receivers but probably the offensive line coaches, everybody out there. He's continuing to progress from a route, fundamentals, and technique standpoint, but also in knowledge of the offense and just the system in general. So it's exciting to see and that development will hopefully continue."
Liam Coen
"Yeah, that was good," Coen said of Hunter's performance the day before. "Just coming off what he's gone through to come out and make an impact fairly early on. And for the first time probably since we've been together was like back to back, like making a play on offense, then on defense, then back on offense. That was really just I think great for everybody to see, not just the fans and the exposure, all that. That's great. That's more just for his confidence and his comfort level getting back out on the grass with his teammates competing and for them to all see him compete like that."
