Early on, the 2027 quarterback draft class was very much ballyhooed. There were even comparisons made to the legendary QB draft class of 1983. However, as the season has rolled on, questions have arisen surrounding almost all of the top prospects. Texas' Arch Manning had been hyped up to be the next Tom Brady, Joe Montana and Peyton Manning combined.
Here at mid-season, however, it is clear that Manning received a lot of unwarranted hyperbole. Elsewhere Oregon's Dante Moore, many believed, could have gone #2 overall last year. He came back to school, and the hype train pulled out of the station once again. Moore is out injured for the rest of the season, and he last played on Sept. 26.
So who has stepped up to become the new top quarterback prospect
in this class? ESPN conducted a midseason poll of 25 NFL scouts and executives, asking them who will be the first QB selected in next year's draft.
Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker was the overwhelming choice, receiving 17 of 25 votes. Notre Dame's CJ Carr received four votes, Miami's Darian Mensah three and Moore one vote.
No one else, including Manning, received a single vote. It is time to adjust your mock drafts accordingly.
Mestemaker, so far this season, has completed 65.5% of his passes for 2,649 yards, 25 TDs and 7 interceptions. He's averaging 9.4 yards per pass and a passer rating of 168.8
