Toledo makes the quick ride north up US 23, and then west on I-96 to East Lansing, about 120 miles and 1 hour, 45 minutes by car. This is just the second-ever meeting on the gridiron between these school, and first battle since Nov. 7, 1925, a 58-0 win by Michigan State.
Toledo has a new coach in Mike Jacobs, a former Ohio State offensive lineman who comes over from the Mercer Bears. He was 20-6 in the past 2 seasons at the helm for the Bears down
in Macon, Georgia. He brings in 2 dynamic players from that Mercer team, too, as RB CJ Miller and DL Andrew Zock follow him to the Rockets, as does WR Adjatay Dabbs. The Rockets have no returning starters, so that will be something to watch early.
Michigan State is predicted to finish in or near the bottom of the Big Ten standings. Pat Fitzgerald takes the reins in East Lansing, and he has just a single returning starter. It will be an uphill climb trying to do it with a bevy of transfers and freshmen.

Back TOLEDO +10 (-105) catching double digits from Sparty. Both of these teams are going to take some time to jell, as new coaches take over, and a slew of transfers and new personnel assume their positions. It's going to be sloppy football at times, and we shouldn't see a giant difference between these programs despite one team being in a power conference, and one in the MAC.
Over/Under
UNDER 46.5 (-105) is the lean in this game, as these teams both will take some time settling in with new quarterbacks, skill position players and coaching regimes. Expect to see a lot of defense, especially early on. As such, UNDER 23.5 (-122) - FIRST HALF total is also a strong option.

Edwards, the senior, was a great addition for Fitzgerald. He gobbled up 1,240 yards for UConn last season, and he scored 15 rushing TDs in 2025. He rushed for 2,690 in his 4 seasons at UConn, and he scored 27 times. He is the best player on the field Friday night.
