QB Darian Mensah put on a show in his Hurricanes debut, throwing for 401 yards and 5 TDs. His favorite target was WR Malachi Toney, who went wild with 12 catches for 234 yards and 3 scores.
Miami leads the all-time series against Florida A&M 11-1. The Rattlers won the first meeting 16-13 in Tallahassee in 1979, but the Hurricanes have won every matchup since. Miami clearly has the talent advantage, but this spread has reached the point where Florida A&M is worth a look. The Hurricanes are laying more than 7 touchdowns after beating Stanford 45-6 in their opener.
Mensah looked like a Heisman candidate alongside Toney in their season opening win. Miami’s offense should have little trouble moving the ball against FAMU, but covering a number this large requires the Hurricanes to keep scoring well after the game is decided.
That may not be the priority. Miami has ACC play coming up and could start pulling key players once it builds a comfortable lead. That creates plenty of opportunity for Florida A&M to score against the reserves or simply shorten the game late.
Miami could win by 40 or even 50 points and still not cover. With this much cushion, the Rattlers don’t need to be competitive for the points to have value.

The Hurricanes finished with 549 total yards and 45 points against Stanford, including 42 points before the fourth quarter. Florida A&M now faces a much tougher challenge after allowing 479 yards to South Carolina State last week.
