These teams meet for the third time in school history. The home team has won both previous meetings, with North Texas winning 24-21 in Denton on Sept. 24, 2011, and Indiana posting a 49-24 win at 'The Rock' on Oct. 4, 2014.
The Hoosiers take the field for the first time since winning the national championship last January at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, 27-21 over the Miami Hurricanes. It still seems to hard to believe. Gone
is Heisman Trophy winner QB Fernando Mendoza, and in steps former TCU Horned Frogs QB Josh Hoover for the Hoo-Hoo-Hoosiers.
North Texas is in shambles, as QB Drew Mestemaker takes his video game like numbers to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in 2026, following coach Eric Morris. RB Caleb Hawkins and WR Wyatt Young also left for Stillwater, so the top skill position guys are now gone. There are no returning starters in Denton, so UNT must start completely over. North Texas allowed 29.1 points per game (PPG) on defense last season, so perhaps starting anew isn't the end of the world on that side of the ball.

Yes, there will be a lot of hype around Indiana after its historic season, but Hoover is new under center, and the Hoosiers have to start a new at plenty of positions, replacing guys like RBs Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby, WR Elijah Sarratt, and, of course, Mendoza. The Hoosiers have 6 starters back on defense, though, so the cupboard definitely isn't bare.
Over/Under
UNDER 57.5 (-115) is the lean, so go with a half-unit play only.
UNT is going to have trouble moving the ball, as it is essentially a new group learning each other's name. At least Indiana has some talent back on the defensive side of the ball. We'll give the Mean Green the benefit of the doubt, and predict they get to double digits, but even that could be a stretch.

Hoover doesn't have to duplicate Mendoza's stats, he just has to run the offense and play his game. It's impossible to replace a Heisman winner and national champ. Indiana should do its share of running, too, but a new defense is susceptible to big plays through the air, too, and the coaching staff will be looking to get Hoover comfortable early.
