The Memphis Tigers and No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones meet Monday to begin their 2026-27 college hoops seasons. Tip from Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is set for 7 p.m. ET (FS1). Let's analyze NCAA basketball odds around the Memphis vs. Iowa State odds and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions for the best bets.
The Tigers come into this season with an almost entirely new roster compared to a year ago. They finished last season 13-19 under coach Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway. Memphis brought in several new talents, including sharpshooter G Luke Almodovar from SE Missouri St. and G Jayden Reid from Northwestern. The major addition was F Tylik Weeks, who averaged a Sun Belt-high 19.7 points per game (PPG) a season ago with the
Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
Iowa State will enter the season with much more continuity, but it has some uncertainties. G Tamin Lipsey (13.5 PPG, 5.1 assists) will be the star of the show. He appea,rs likely to play the entire season but still faces some eligibility hurdles. G Jaquan Johnson, who transferred from the Bradley Braves where he averaged 16.9 PPG, is another player to watch. Iowa State is coming off a dominant season, where it finished 29-8 and eighth in the final AP Poll.
Iowa State won the only previous meeting, 78-59 in the championship game of the 2021 NIT Season Tip-off.

Memphis vs. Iowa State picks and predictions
Prediction
Iowa State 85, Memphis 68
Moneyline
PASS.
No interest; Iowa State (-1400) should win handily. It is too expensive to take on the moneyline.
Against the spread
BET IOWA STATE -15.5 (-102).
After a terrific few seasons prior, Hardaway and the Tigers fell short often last season, suffering 19 losses. He completely revamped the roster and should have a brand new starting 5. That might pose some early-season hiccups as they get used to the system.
The Cyclones know how to get off to a hot start. They were 8-1 against the spread (ATS) in their first 9 games a season ago, and with Lipsey active, they could have one of the best backcourts in the Big 12. Iowa State was 15-1 straight up and 9-6-1 ATS against non-conference foes last season.
Expect the continuity to matter to start the season and take IOWA STATE -15.5 (-102).
Over/Under
BET UNDER 155.5 (-110).
Both teams brought in some of the top scorers in their respective conferences from a season ago. Almodovar, Reid and G Brandin Cummings, the Tigers' key backcourt contributors, all averaged over 10 points per game last season. They should be able to take and make tough shots.
For Iowa State, it got off to a hot start offensively last season and will have 3 of its projected starters returning from that team. It scored at least 83 points in its first 5 games and went 4-1 O/U in those. The Cyclones were 9-7 O/U in non-conference games last season.
