Despite the strong record, the offense struggled with consistency under coordinator Kevin Patullo. The season ended with a 23-19 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card round. Philadelphia made major changes afterward, hiring Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator and trading WR A.J. Brown as the Eagles
reworked the offense for 2026.
Washington went from the NFC Championship Game to a 5-12 season in a hurry. Injuries played a major role, with QB Jayden Daniels limited to just 7 games after his Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign. The rough year also led to the departures of coordinators Kliff Kingsbury and Joe Whitt Jr. Now the Commanders are trying to reset around a healthy Daniels, but the injury bug has already returned. All-Pro LT Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn right triceps during training camp.

Washington enters with major offensive line concerns without Tunsil and Philadelphia's premiere defensive line will cause problems all afternoon for Daniels in the pocket.
The Eagles may need some time to adjust to Mannion’s new offense, but the running game should remain a strength. RB Saquon Barkley gets a healthy offensive line against a Washington defense that ranked 27th in yards allowed per carry last season.
The Commanders did spend a lot of money and draft capital to improve their defense but Philadelphia should not have problems moving the ball. Philadelphia can lean on Barkley, pressure Daniels and use their overall talent advantage to build a comfortable lead at home.

Both teams will likely lean on the run in Week 1, making the Under the best play. Philadelphia can rely on Barkley while adjusting to a new offense. Washington has offensive line problems will make Daniels job even harder against Vic Fangio’s defense. A run-heavy approach from both teams should keep the clock moving and limit possessions in this NFC East matchup.

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley 100+ Rushing Yards (+200).
Washington hasn’t found an answer for Barkley since he arrived in Philadelphia. He has cleared 100 rushing yards in all 4 meetings as an Eagle, averaging more than 136 yards per game against the Commanders. That puts Barkley 100-plus rushing yards squarely on the Week 1 radar. Washington finished 30th in rushing yards allowed last season, and Barkley gets to work behind a healthy Eagles offensive line that should give him plenty of opportunities to keep that streak going.
