Raptors at Nuggets picks and predictions
Prediction
Raptors 118, Nuggets 116
Moneyline
LEAN RAPTORS (+155).
The Raptors, in spite of their injuries, have simply been better than the Nuggets to start the season. The Raptors are top-7 in both offensive rating (116.3, sixth) and defensive rating (108.5, seventh), while also averaging more rebounds per game (44.1) than Denver (42.5) and forcing the most turnovers per game of any team in the NBA (20.9).
The lack of size to matchup against Jokic is the only worry for Toronto, but that didn't matter when the Golden State Warriors beat Denver 134-114 in spite of having a much worse defense than this Raptors team has, so I don't expect it to matter here.
Against the spread
PASS.
The Raptors will cover here as +4.5 (-110) underdogs, but there is no reason to back Toronto here when I am picking them to win outright at plus money. Pass here and bet on the spread and/or total instead.
Over/Under
LEAN OVER 230.5 (-110).
The Raptors normally have a very good defense, but without Leonard, the defense has been a bit softer, and with all the attention that the Raptors will place on Jokic, other guys like Murray will likely be able to get going here. Denver, on the other hand, is a team that just doesn't play defense at all, so expect that the Raptors have a very solid night offensively.
The Over has hit in all of Toronto's last 4 games overall and is 3-1 in the last 4 matchups between these squads that took place in Ball Arena.
Best prop bet
Nuggets C NIKOLA JOKIC UNDER 24.5 POINTS (-115).
Jokic has not been his normal self to start the season; he has yet to lead the Nuggets in scoring in any game this season and is averaging just 22 points per game, his lowest number since before COVID. In his last matchup against Toronto, he also finished with just 22 points.
Regardless of whether Poeltl plays or not, the Raptors will have very good and very strong defenders to throw at Jokic to keep him from getting to this number.
