Congratulations are in order for Martin Emerson Jr. On Wednesday, the veteran New Orleans Saints cornerback was recognized as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the New York Giants in Week 6.
Emerson broke out with two interceptions (picking off both of the Giants quarterbacks, Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy), a pass deflection, and seven tackles on the afternoon. But he only got into the game because the starter, Kool-Aid McKinstry, was sidelined by a migraine. Talk about making the most of your opportunity.

Emerson’s NFL career started as a Cleveland Browns draft pick out of Mississippi State, where he developed into a quality starter. But he suffered
a season-ending injury last summer in what should have been a contract year. Now he’s working hard to put himself back on everyone’s radar.
