Injury news for the New Orleans Saints continues to get worse. As the Saints head into their Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in the Superdome, a second defensive lineman was a late addition to the game status report on Saturday. Defensive tackle Vernon Broughton was reported to have an illness that now has him listed as questionable to face the Vikings. This was initially reported by Ross Jackson of louisianasports.net. Earlier on Saturday, defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd was also added to the injury report and listed as questionable with an illness.
New Orleans has already struggled up front all season. The Saints rank 30th in run defense and have gotten very little pass rush from their defensive line. Shepherd has half a sack
among his 12 tackles along with 3 pressures. Broughton has yet to record a sack and has 3 pressures with 6 tackles. Both have still been the team's most productive interior linemen. Rookie defensive tackle Christen Miller is also listed as questionable after not participating in practice late in the week because of illness. Miller, a second round selection, has been inactive the previous two games because of a toe injury.
New Orleans comes into Week 5 with a 1-3 record. The Vikings counter with a 4-0 mark, but are ranked 31st in total offense and 17th in rushing production. Saints Wire will update the statuses of Shepherd, Broughton, and Miller along with other news as Sunday's kickoff approaches.
