Over the course of the New Orleans Saints' 58 seasons of existence, they have had 37 different kickers attempt at least one kick during a regular-season game. One of the most notable during that time frame was Wil Lutz, holding down the fort for seven seasons before being traded to the Denver Broncos.
Since then, the Saints have utilized two options, Blake Grupe and Charlie Smyth, who both had their bright spots and low moments. Now, Smyth was let go before the NFL roster cuts deadline (but could return on the practice squad). For 2026, they will rely on another option, though, as recently signed two-time All-Pro Daniel Carlson will take the reins to open the season, as was reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.

Carlson was picked up before the third preseason game for New Orleans, and in that third matchup, he had three kicking attempts, making two field goals and an extra point, including a 53-yard bomb that likely won him the job. After spotty performances from Smyth and Tanner Brown this summer, Carlson will step in and earn a starting job for his ninth consecutive season.
