One former New Orleans Saints first-round pick is calling it a career. Marcus Davenport has chosen to retire, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport
, who reports Davenport asked for and was granted his release by the Chicago Bears. Now 30 years old, Davenport has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, and Bears since leaving the team that drafted him. He's dealt with a number of injuries in his career which may have played a part in his decision to step away.Davenport never did meet expectations after the Saints traded a first-round pick to move up and pick him sixteenth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, putting up 21.5 sacks in 63 games with New Orleans. He's only managed three sacks in 15 games over the last four years while working through
a couple of different injuries. Davenport has always been known for his passions outside of football, so good luck to him in retirement.
