Drew Brees saved one of his most clutch touchdown passes for his final year in the NFL. With 41 days to go until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2026 season on the road with the Detroit Lions, this 41-yard strike against his old Los Angeles Chargers team is our pick for the Saints Play of the Day. Trailing by 20-13 in the fourth quarter and facing 1st-and-10 from the Los Angeles 37-yard line, Brees was sacked by Joey Bosa for a loss of five yards. The second down run by Alvin Kamara was snuffed out after gaining a single yard. Now it was 3rd-and-14 from the 41-yard line, and time was running out. But Brees delivered by stepping up in the pocket and dropping a pass over the top of the Chargers defense,
hitting Jared Cook in stride. The big tight end walked into the end zone for six points and Wil Lutz kicked the game-tying extra point.
It proved to be decisive in a game that went to overtime, and which the Saints won because of another Lutz kick. The New Orleans defense came through in a big spot by stopping Justin Herbert's Chargers offense in overtime, sealing the win, but they wouldn't have even gotten the chance without this touchdown pass from No. 9.
