Welcome back again, Jonah Williams. On Monday, the New Orleans Saints announced that the veteran defensive end had re-signed with their practice squad -- less than a week after the Saints signed Williams and cut him due to what head coach Kellen Moore described as "a medical thing." Moore added that "He'll be fine, just wasn't ready yet" at the time.
New Orleans could use his help with Cameron Jordan still on the mend. The franchise sacks leader has been sidelined since early August with a hamstring injury, and while Jordan practiced on a limited basis late last week, that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be ready to play against Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. Chase Young and Carl Granderson had some good moments
in Week 1's season opener with the Detroit Lions but the Saints' pass rush was just too quiet as a group. Tyree Wilson and Anfernee Jennings didn't bring enough pressure on their opportunities.
But don't expect Williams to cure what ails them all by himself. He's joining second-year pro Fadil Diggs on the practice squad, and while he knows Brandon Staley's system well (he came up in Staley's Los Angeles Rams defense back in the day), he figures to be a backup if he does get elevated for a game. Williams spent training camp with the Arizona Cardinals but is now back in New Orleans, where he spent the 2025 season. He appeared in 15 games and was credited with 18 tackles (5 tackles for loss) and 3 sacks last year.
