Here’s that extra cornerback we’ve been looking for. The New Orleans Saints claimed third-year pro Decamerion Richardson off of waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders, adding some depth in the secondary behind Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley, Martin Emerson Jr., and Jayden Price.
Richardson is an impressive athlete. The 6-foot-2 Mississippi State product (and Bossier, La. native) timed the 40-yard dash in just 4.34 seconds coming out of college. That helped convince the Raiders pick him early in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He started seven games as a rookie but logged just 13 defensive snaps under a new coaching staff last season. With more turnover in Las Vegas this spring, he’s found himself on the outs.
Maybe Richardson can put his
talents to good use in New Orleans. The Saints won’t ask him to start a game any time soon, but Richardson’s experience on special teams (293 snaps the last two seasons) could help them navigate the first four weeks without standout rookie Lorenzo Styles Jr.
