Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener is attempting to work his way back onto an NFL roster. Haener worked out for the New York Giants on Monday, per the daily NFL transactions wire. If signed, the 27-year-old would join a quarterback room featuring Jaxson Dart, Jameis Winston, and Brandon Allen — with an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster.
The Saints selected Haener out of Fresno State with pick No. 127 in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with New Orleans but received all of his regular-season playing time during the 2024 season. Haener completed 18 of his 39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown, and one interception across eight appearances. His only start came against the Washington Commanders,
when he completed four-of-ten passes for 49 yards before being replaced at halftime.
Haener remained with the Saints through the 2025 season, but the team released him in January. The Kansas City Chiefs subsequently signed Haener to a reserve/future contract, though the team waived him in May in the midst of signing Justin Fields to back up Patrick Mahomes and reshaping of their quarterback room.
New York already has three quarterbacks under contract, so Haener would likely have to compete for a fourth spot or convince the Giants to make a change, likely with Allen. The workout doesn't guarantee a training camp contract, but it is his first reported NFL opportunity since leaving Kansas City.
