Our countdown to New Orleans Saints kickoff is finally complete, as the Saints open their 2026 campaign this afternoon at the Detroit Lions. Though currently on injured reserve with a destination to return, rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson will wear the No. 0 for the Saints this season. The Nos. 0 and 00 were banned by use in the NFL in 1973, with only a couple players using it at the time grandfathered in for continued usage. That rule was lifted in 2023, with now only offensive or defensive linemen prohibited from using the number. As such, Tyson will become only the fourth player in New Orleans franchise history to wear a 0 or 00 jersey. Our 2026 countdown to kickoff series wraps up with a look at each.

Obert Logan came to the Saints from
the Dallas Cowboys in the 1967 NFL expansion draft. He'd start 13 of 14 games in his only season with the team, intercepting 3 passes in what turned out to be his final season in the NFL.
Ken Burrough was the 10th overall choice in the 1970 NFL draft by New Orleans out of Texas Southern. He was the first receiver selected that year and the third highest wideout ever drafted by the Saints behind Larry Burton (7th) in 1975, Wes Chandler (3rd) in 1979, and Jordan Tyson (8th) in 2026. Burrough played just one season in New Orleans, catching 13 passes for 196 yards and 2 scores. The Saints traded him to the Houston Oilers in 1971, where he'd go on to have 408 receptions for 6,906 yards and 47 touchdowns over the next 11 years with four seasons of at least 750 yards. Burrough is one of four players in NFL history to wear the No. 00, a list that most famously includes Pro Football Hall of Fame Oakland Raiders center Jim Otto.
Ugo Amadi became the first New Orleans player in 56 years to wear a 0 jersey upon his arrival in 2023. A special teams standout, Amadi also saw snaps as a slot corner and at safety for the Saints defense. He'd appear in 35 games for New Orleans over those three years, recording 2 sacks among his 77 total tackles.
Jordyn Tyson will miss at least the first four games of his rookie year with a hamstring injury suffered in training camp. Tyson will take the same 0 jersey he wore his last three years with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Saints targeted Tyson early in the draft because of his explosiveness, outstanding routes, and acrobatic abilities. He'll be expected to quickly become a valuable offensive weapon.
