Jake Haener has a new home. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback is signing with the New York Giants after trying out for a couple of different teams, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Haener was drafted by the Saints back in 2023 as a fourth-round pick out of Fresno State but was let go after a single disastrous start. He last auditioned for the Giants back in July.
New York had an open roster spot after the surprise retirement of cornerback Sam Webb, but they needed more depth at quarterback when Jaxson Dart took a scary hit in their first preseason game. Haener reunites with his old teammate Jameis Winston and veteran journeyman Brandon Allen as Dart's backups. Maybe he'll get enough pass attempts in the final weeks of the preseason to earn
a larger role somewhere else after roster cuts later this month.
