The New Orleans Saints have officially placed promising defensive tackle Bryan Bresee on injured reserve, according to the NFL's transaction wire. The move comes after head coach Kellen Moore confirmed Bresee suffered a torn ACL and will undergo season-ending surgery. Bresee injured his knee during the Saints' first training camp practice, an immediate blow to New Orleans' defensive front.
New Orleans initially waited for a second opinion on the injury after the early testing didn't look promising. Unfortunately, the fears were confirmed, ending Bresee's fourth NFL season before it could even begin. Bresee was coming off a 2025 season in which he started all 15 games he appeared in, finishing with 37 tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss,
eight quarterback hits, and a forced fumble. The former No. 29 overall pick has totaled 14.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, and 31 quarterback hits through his first three NFL seasons.
Bresee's absence will create significant opportunity for the rest of the Saints' defensive line room. Davon Godchaux and Nathan Shepherd give New Orleans veteran options, while younger players like Vernon Broughton and Christen Miller could be asked to take on larger roles immediately. As for Bresee, he will now turn his attention toward rehab with an expected return in 2027.
