Week 3 is already upon us. The New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders shared their initial injury reports after practicing on Wednesday, and there are several storylines involving key players from each team to keep an eye on throughout the week ahead. From rookie draft picks like Christen Miller and Barion Brown to high-profile veterans like Chase Young and Travis Etienne Jr., the Saints have plenty of talent on the mend. Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, recovering from a knee scope, isn't the only playmaker working to get back on the field this week.
Here's what we learned on Wednesday.
Did not participate
- WR Barion Brown (hamstring)
- CB Martin Emerson Jr. (shouldeer)
- DL Christen Miller (toe)
Brown is a new one; it's not clear yet if he hurt himself at practice or if something was detected after the Ravens game. Emerson left that matchup and didn't
return, but Saints coach Kellen Moore said afterwards that he would be day-to-day. Miller was injured at practice on Friday and missed the trip to Baltimore because of it.
Limited participation
- RB Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring)
- S Jonas Sanker (knee)
- DL Nathan Shepherd (hip)
- EDGE Chase Young (calf)
Young dealt with a calf issue last week but was able to play through it on Sunday, so that's encouraging. We'll see if he's able to ramp up his participation at practice later in the week. Etienne is concerning given how quiet the Saints' rushing attack has been. Sanker and Shepherd both play heavy minutes and should be monitored.
Full participation
- LB Isaiah Stalbird (shoulder)
Stalbird didn't practice much last week after getting hurt in the season opener, so it's reassuring to see him full-go to start Week 3. He's an important part of the special teams unit and a very effective blitzer in certain defensive personnel packages.
