Gayle Benson has had a busy week. Days after calling out her team's performance in an eight-minute speech at the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, where the owner of the New Orleans Saints singled out by name head coach Kellen Moore and general manager Mickey Loomis, she decided to stop by Friday's practice session.
Benson was spotted speaking with players like team captain Cameron Jordan and hugging Moore during the portion of practice open to the media. Moore commented on her visit during his press conference after practice.
"Yeah, it's always good to see Mrs. B," Moore started, "She likes to pop in and catch some practice here and there and so, uh, always good to see her. She's, uh, obviously been great and uh, she's always supportive."
When asked if Benson and Moore had discussed her critical remarks earlier in the week, he demurred: "We're, we're all just trying to reach the same goal. We, we all want to win football games and so, uh, we're all working towards that."

It's not uncommon to see Benson observing practice during training camp; she'll often be driven around the sidelines in a golf cart, waving to fans and exchanging pleasantries with members of the team. But this felt like a pointed gesture after she all but put Moore and general manager Mickey Loomis on the hot seat. The 1-4 Saints will visit the big-market New York Giants (3-1-1) on Sunday before traveling overseas for a game Benson has spent years campaigning for, matching up with the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) in Paris. Her message is obvious -- she's watching closely, and she had better see results.
