There you go. The New Orleans Saints chose to go for broke on fourth down against the Pittsburgh Steelers, having gotten stopped on three straight running plays at the goal line. This time they asked Tyler Shough to throw to his wide receiver Devaughn Vele in the flat, and the big receiver came through. He caught the scoring pass for a game-tying touchdown pass.
Vele has been a consistent threat for the Saints on third downs, but this was just his third touchdown of the season. He's a valuable target on critical downs at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, and New Orleans is beginning to use his skills more and more. It's exactly what you hope to see out of an offense that's struggled to keep pressure on their opponents. When you're in the red zone, throwing
to a receiver who is taller and stronger than his opponents should be an easy call. With Jordyn Tyson hopeful to return after the bye week, it's important that Vele continue to see targets in the top-three receivers along with Chris Olave and the team's first-round pick.
