This isn’t what you want to see. New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore told reporters Saturday that three key defenders will not play in Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons due to injuries. Starting defensive end Carl Granderson (ankle) and his backup Anfernee Jennings (knee) will both be sidelined, as will linebacker Kaden Elliss (calf), another impactful starter.
Elliss signed with the Saints this spring after spending the last three years in Atlanta; New Orleans drafted him before that, so this is a rivalry he knows well. If he could play, he’d be out there.
These absences mean the Saints defense will have its hands full trying to contain Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, one of the NFL’s most dynamic players at his position.
Another starting linebacker, Pete Werner, is questionable for Monday after missing practice time with his own injury. Stay tuned.
