Yikes. The New Orleans Saints will be on their third long snapper in three games after Scott Daly left the practice squad for a reunion with the Chicago Bears, per Brad Biggs for the Chicago Tribune. Daly first signed with the Saints just one week ago after veteran specialist Zach Wood suffered a calf strain in practice that landed him on injured reserve.
It's disappointing to see Daly move on so quickly. The Saints could have blocked the move by signing him to their 53-man roster in the first place, but it is what it is. His pro career took off once Daly landed with the Bears back in 2024, and he clearly enjoyed the experience enough to return. Chicago had experienced a lot of struggles with rookie long snapper Beau Gardner throwing off the timing
through two weeks. The Bears also had a field goal blocked on one of a couple high snaps he sent back on Sunday.
So where do the Saints turn now? Wood is still out of action, and will reportedly be sidelined for quite a while. Daly was one of three tryouts last week, along with former Denver Broncos long snapper Luke Basso and Niko Lalos, who was previously a member of the New Orleans practice squad as a defensive end. Basso signed with the Miami Dolphins practice squad on Tuesday, so he isn't an option. Maybe they bring Lalos back or go in another direction. Either way, rotating through three different long snappers in your first three games is far from ideal.
