It's good to see someone feeling a type of way after the New Orleans Saints got humbled in Monday night's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Defensive captain Chase Young laid it out plainly when asked if he and his teammates had a "sour taste" in their mouths after an embarrassing loss to their biggest rivals on the sport's biggest stage.
“I hope we have a sour taste," Young responded. "That's the game, right? You win some, you lose some. But the ones you lose, I think real competitors keep that sour taste until Sunday. And I hope everybody in here has a sour taste in their mouth 'til we get to Sunday. So we can use that monkey on our back.”
Football is an emotional sport. Passion is a big part of it. Harnessing those feelings of disappointment after
an ugly defeat is the most productive response you could ask for. There were times late in that Falcons game where the Saints looked like a broken team with guys jogging instead of running at full speed. They didn't look like the "real competitors" Young alluded to.
Young was given a captain's patch for a reason. It's his responsibility to say things like this and lead by example. He's done his part as one of the few difference-makers on the team's defense. Let's see if others rally to his message when the Saints host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
