We know that Jordyn Tyson will be eligible to return to practice after the New Orleans Saints wrap up their Week 4 game with the Atlanta Falcons, but that doesn't mean he'll do so. The question ultimately lies in the health of his hamstring and whether he's received the green light to leave injured reserve. So how far along is he in recovery?
Saints coach Kellen Moore was asked directly about Tyson's progress, telling reporters on Thursday that he didn't anticipate Tyson would return to practice right away: "Not at the moment, but we'll, we'll see."
Two days later, NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill observed Tyson sprinting at practice on Saturday, working on stopping and starting at what looked like full speed. It's a very good sign that he's
ramping up his activity level even if Tyson isn't expected to come back this week. It at least seems like he's ahead of schedule given that he was initially expected back in late October.
If he isn't ready to return just yet, the schedule isn't working in his favor. The Saints will play the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday in the last leg of a three-game homestand before going on the road. They'll travel to face the New York Giants the following week before flying overseas to France, where they'll play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL's first game in Paris. Asking a rookie with a lingering hamstring injury to spend that much time in the air may be unwise. If Tyson doesn't play at home against Minnesota, his next opportunity would fall after the bye week -- against the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 8. As Moore said, we'll see if Tyson can come back sooner.
