Next week's NFL International Series game between the New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers will be played as scheduled. Ongoing student protests and demonstrations
against poor school conditions and the rising cost of living have drawn a lot of attention on social media, but they are not expected to impact the NFL's first-ever game in France. Brooke Pryor, ESPN's NFL Nation beat reporter for the Steelers, shared a statement from the league office:“We’re excited for the first-ever regular season game in Paris, and preparations continue as scheduled for NFL events and the game at Stade de France on October 25. As we do for every NFL game, including our international games, we work closely with local authorities and partners on all operational
and security matters. We look forward to welcoming fans to Paris later this month.”
A May 25 travel advisory was issued by the U.S. State Department, alerting tourists to the threats of pickpockets in crowded places and the possibility of unexpected terrorist attacks, while also noting "There are also regular, peaceful protests and strikes in Paris and other cities throughout France."
Most demonstrations gather at the historic Place de la Bastille or Place de la République, both an hour's drive (or more) away from Stade de France where the game will be held. Disruptions are expected to be minimal, if felt at all, but public transit may be impacted. Give yourself more time to get to the stadium if you're making the trip. It's something to be aware of, just like traveling anywhere else. Kickoff is set for 8:30 a.m. CT/3:30 p.m. Paris time on Sunday, Oct. 25.
