Hurricane Isaias made landfall in the western Florida panhandle overnight Friday, bringing life-threatening coastal storm surge, torrential rain, and intense winds to much of the northern Gulf Coast. While the eye of the hurricane took a track far east of Louisiana, the storm's wind field and rain bands extended hundreds of miles from its center. Anyone in the storm's path should look for guidance from their local authorities.
New Orleans Saints fans know hurricanes all too well. What impacts, if any, will Hurricane Isaias have in store for Sunday's game with the Minnesota Vikings at the Caesars Superdome? Kickoff is set for Noon CT/1 p.m. ET.
Fortunately for New Orleans, Hurricane Isaias will mainly be felt in gusting winds and choppy waters.
The storm's most destructive impacts fall on the eastern side pulling rain and strong winds offshore. Sunday's forecast in New Orleans calls for mostly sunny skies, no chance of rain, and occasionally gusty winds. With a high temperature of 87 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 66 degrees, the walk to and from the Caesars Superdome shouldn't be too unpleasant.
Louisiana was very fortunate to see Hurricane Isaias track further east. Our thoughts are with our neighbors in southeast Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida as they weather the storm. These late-season storms are uncommon, but not unknown. Hurricane season continues until Nov. 30.
