Injuries continue to mount for the New Orleans Saints as they head into just Week 2 of their 2026 season. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Katherine Terrell reported that Saints long snapper Zach Wood will miss time. Wood sustained a calf strain that could keep him sidelined for more than a month. He was not listed on Wednesday's injury report

, but was evaluated and diagnosed after noticing discomfort during practice.

Wood has been with the Saints for ten seasons. During that time he's been one of the league's most consistent long snappers. He has also never missed a game, appearing in 150 consecutive regular season contests. That will change when the Saints travel to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Wood reportedly suffered a Grade 2 calf strain. That

could keep him sidelined for four to six weeks, if not longer. So far, it is unclear whether New Orleans will place him on injured reserve with a destination to return or season-ending injured reserve. The Saints do not have an official long snapper on their practice squad. Defensive tackle John Ridgeway III filled in at long snapper for Wood when he missed some practice time in training camp attending Drew Brees’ induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
