Week 1 for the New Orleans Saints was a thrilling one, as they took on the Detroit Lions on the road and lost in overtime on a failed two-point conversion attempt. However, they showed some extreme resiliency and found their stride on offense in the second half, especially Tyler Shough and Chris Olave.
This strong performance from them led to some Madden 27 ratings being updated, with five players receiving increased overall stats and one receiving a decrease. Here is the full list of players to get an update following Week 1:
- WR Chris Olave - 87 overall to 88 overall (+1)
- EDGE Chase Young - 81 overall to 82 overall (+1)
- LT Kelvin Banks Jr. - 77 overall to 78 overall (+1)
- RT Taliese Fuaga - 77 overall to 76 overall (-1)
- WR Devaughn Vele - 74 overall to 75 overall (+1)
- DT Vernon Broughton - 68 overall to 69 overall (+1)
There are a couple of surprises here, either in the changes or the lack thereof. Olave only receiving one additional rating point, despite catching 10 of a whopping 13 targets for 182 yards, seems a little low. Especially
considering Justin Jefferson, who was already a 94, got two more points for putting up 8 receptions on 9 targets for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Tyler Shough also not receiving any upgrade at all from his current 77 rating is asinine, following a performance where he had the most single-game passing yards for the Saints since Week 1 of 2018. David Edwards is also only a 79 still, which, after an outstanding 2025 campaign and Week 1, feels ridiculously low.
We will see what updates come through following their huge win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, a team that Madden has given some lofty ratings to and believes will be one of the best in the NFL this season.
