A reeling New Orleans Saints squad will try to get themselves back on track during a road trip to face the New York Giants in Week 6. For the 1-4 Saints, it will be their first road game since Week 2. They've dropped three consecutive games at home, with their only win being a Week 2 victory at the Baltimore Ravens. The Giants come in at 3-1-1, with all three of their wins coming at home.
Sunday will be the 35th all-time meeting between the Saints and Giants. It's been a very even series, with only 16 points separating the teams. New Orleans has not fared quite as well in New York but have done better in recent meetings. Here's a look at their all-time results.
Saints vs. Giants series history
- Overall: 17-17
- Away: 6-12
- Last 10 matchups: 7-3
- Last 5 matchups: 4-1
- Last meeting (2025): Saints (26-14)
- Last meeting in New York (2024): Saints (14-11)
New Orleans faced New York in four of their first five years of existence. These teams
split at two victories apiece, but the Giants won two of the three played in New York. The same 2-2 split happened through their four meetings between 1972 and 1979. New Orleans and New York each possessed dominating defenses through the 1980s, resulting in low scores and physical matchups through their six meetings in the decade. Only once did the winning team score more than 21 points through those six contests, with the average total output being just 28.3 points between the two squads.
New York again bested the Saints through the 1990s, taking four of their six matchups. The Giants then took two of three games against New Orleans between 2001 and 2005. Both the 2001 and 2005 games will be more remembered for the tragedies that preceded the actual games. On Sept. 30, 2005, the Giants defeated the Saints by a 21-13 score in New York. It was the first game played back in New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. After Hurricane Katrina devasted New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region in 2005, the Saints played their entire season away from New Orleans. Their first scheduled “home” game of that year was in Week 2 on Sept. 19 against the Giants. The NFL would move that contest to New York, however, with the result being a 27-10 Giants victory.
Upon the arrival of head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees in 2006, the Saints took control of this rivalry. New Orleans owns an 8-3 record against New York over the past 20 years, including three consecutive victories in the last three years. The Saints had next to zero success in New York early on in the series. They lost five of their first six, seven of their first nine, and 11 of 14 away games against the Giants through 2005. They've turned the tide slightly, winning three of their last five and two consecutive trips to New York.
New Orleans now travels to New York after losing three consecutive games in the Superdome. The Saints played well in their first two road trips of the year at Detroit and at Baltimore. They'll now face off against an improved Giants squad under new head coach John Harbaugh and led by former Saint Jameis Winston at quarterback. New York's three victories thus far is only one off their total wins from last season and equals their win total from 2025.
