Between the initial training camp cutdowns and the season opener at the Detroit Lions, we can still expect several changes with the New Orleans Saints roster.
One such change occurred on Tuesday, when the Saints picked up cornerback Decamerion Richardson off waivers. Richardson spent his first two NFL seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, he is listed as a third-string corner on the Saints unofficial depth chart.

Raised in Cullen, Louisiana, Richardson starred in football and track at Bossier High School. He was a three-star recruit who went on to Mississippi State collegiately. Richardson played sparingly his first two seasons, gathering just 13 total tackles over 20 games between 2020
and 2021. He'd see significant action for the Bulldogs in 2022, recording 85 tackles and breaking up three passes. Richardson had seven pass breakups in 2023 while notching a sack among 79 total tackles.
With a fourth round choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Raiders took Richardson with the 112th overall selection. As a rookie, he'd appear in twelve games with seven starts, breaking up three throws and recording 46 tackles on 70% of the Vegas defensive snaps (559) and 89 snaps on special teams. His usage went way down in 2025, as Richardson appeared in only 13 defensive snaps but 204 on special teams through 15 game appearances. He would make the Raiders initial 53-man squad on Sunday, but was released two days later and immediately picked up by New Orleans.
Richardson is a lengthy corner with sub-4.4 speed and instant acceleration. He has ideal size can stay with anyone on downfield routes, but needs to show better route anticipation and play reaction. Richardson has below average ball skills, not recording an interception in college and has yet to do so in the NFL. However, he has some special teams value which could earn him some reps for the Saints as he hopefully provides cornerback depth.
