So much for that. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Tuesday evening that the LSU Tigers are adding two athletes to their football roster in order to meet the 105-player limit -- effectively blocking the program from activating former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Zxavian Harris from getting into a game in 2026. Harris was one of two former college football players who signed NFL contracts and joined a lawsuit in Louisiana state court in order to transfer to LSU, reuniting with their old coach Lane Kiffin (the other being former Cleveland Browns tight end Dae'Quan Wright).
It ended up being a lot of drama for two players, and ultimately LSU seems to have decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. That the SEC began planning a vote on the school's
future membership within the conference on the same day feels noteworthy. Harris and Wright's attorney Ryan Downton told Yahoo Sports that the players are "reviewing legal options" to resume their college careers. We'll see if anything comes of that.
For Kiffin's part? He led the Tigers into a 51-10 blowout win over Clemson in the season opener, quipping at halftime (with a 28-pooint lead) to "Imagine if we had pro players."
