The Seattle Seahawks have made it crystal clear that they want to move back from pick 32 (the spot reserved for Super Bowl winners, such as the Seahawks). They want to leave this draft with more than the four picks they have right now, but finding a trade partner is not always so simple.
Hours before the draft commences in Pittsburgh, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Seahawks and New England Patriots (who pick 31st as runners-up) have already fielded calls regarding a trade down to Day
2.
“Teams like the Patriots and Seahawks have gotten calls already about potentially moving down,” Pelissero said. “Both teams are open to moving down. In a draft where we may not have—everybody can say there’s not as much star power, there’s not as many quarterbacks, all that’s true! We could have a lot of activity tonight precisely for those reasons.”
The last time the Seahawks traded a first-round pick on draft night was 2019, eventually selecting safety Marquise Blair following multiple trades down into the second round. They’ve stuck to their spots in the first round (or, in the case of the 2021 team, the late second round) in each of the last six drafts. Seattle doesn’t have many positional needs, but no one has ever complained about having too many draft picks.
We’ll find out if this report is bluster or if the first Seahawks draft pick in 2026 will come on a Friday.
