Today was the third day of Saints training camp, and the offense found different ways to feature Travis Etienne Jr. throughout multiple team periods. The combination of Etienne and Alvin Kamara looks like exactly what Saints fans were hoping for when the team paired the dynamic running back duo this offseason.
Etienne spoke with the media following practice, and during his session he highlighted how, even at this stage of his career, he is still able to learn from Kamara. He went on to say, “I’m watching
him, trying to soak it all in and seeing what I can take from his game and incorporate into mine.”
Running back is a position where only one player is typically on the field at a time. However, a good running back room can feed off the energy and relationships within the group, especially when the players have developed strong communication and trust that allow them to help each other even when they’re not in the game.
Etienne Jr. was asked how running backs can build chemistry if they aren’t on the field together. CSC’s Tina Howell quoted him as saying, “As long as we’re winning, we don’t care. It’s a 17-game season, and we’re here for a reason. The main focus is on winning games, getting to the playoffs, and winning a championship. You don’t get there by being selfish.”
Etienne Jr. was also asked about his role alongside Kamara. Per NOF, he said they don’t care who takes the field first because they both know they can make plays, and they plan to feed off each other’s success.
Etienne Jr. is showing early in training camp that he and Kamara are locked in on one goal: producing wins, regardless of what their individual roles may be throughout the season.
