Andrew Berry and Co. have been killing it in free agency so far, adding four potential starters along the offensive line heading into 2026. Though the offensive line is almost complete, they still need to find their starting left tackle within the next month or so.
Despite there being some stopgap-type players who could potentially start at left tackle in free agency, like Trey Pipkins III or Braxton Jones, it’s probably best to find their starter in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Though they could definitely
take Georgia’s Monroe Freeling at No.6 overall, the Browns could choose to take a wide receiver like Carnell Tate at that spot. If this ends up being the case, then Utah’s Caleb Lomu could be the next best option as a true left tackle candidate for Cleveland.
His ability to effortlessly glide through his pass sets while having enough core strength to negate inside counters with a “high hand” is beautiful to watch.
Though he has hiccups now and then when it comes to opening his hips and turning his shoulders too early in the rep, he has more than enough consistency on tape to solidify his draft stock as a potential 1st-round offensive tackle.
It’s going to be incredibly interesting to see what route Cleveland decides to take in round one next month. The good thing is that there’s probably no incorrect way to go about doing it as long as it’s some sort of WR/OL combination on day one.
They could take Monroe Freeling at No.6 and then Omar Cooper Jr./K.C. Concepcion at No.24, or take Carnell Tate at No.6 and go after Caleb Lomu at No.24. Either of those combos would upgrade both positions for Todd Monken’s offense heading into 2026.
