At the end of last season, Liverpool made the switch back to Adidas after more than a decade spent with Warrior, New Balance, and Nike as kit suppliers and released a trio of kits that embraced both the club and brand’s history to good effect.
Things may not have gone as hoped on the pitch, but with all three of this season’s kits proving popular with the fans, the bar is high for 2026-27 and with the release today of next season’s home kit ticks almost all of the boxes if you’re looking for more
retro goodness.
That’s because next season’s home kit is being released as a remake of the home kit the Reds wore from 1989 through 1991, when Liverpool won their then-record 18th league title under legendary player and manager Kenny Dalglish.
John Barnes, Ian Rush, and Alan Hansen all wore that original kit, which many fans remember as one of the most iconic in the club’s history with its very 80s use of geometric patterns, of lines and fading cones, to give the feeling of movement.
The one place fans will likely most notice a change is in the use of Adidas’ unpleasantly wide new stripes, a design choice which unfortunately has the adult kits look rather more like the children’s version in how it throws off the visual proportions.
Still, if double extra jumbo wide Adidas branding doesn’t land as jarring for you it’s a heck of a kit—and if you do find the double extra jumbo wide Adidas branding jarring, well, there are whispers a one-for-0ne remake of the original kit is coming.
