What Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos lacks in size, he makes up for in self-confidence. The Seminole signal caller continues to toe the line between poised and precipitous during his media availabilities, and that stayed true on Wednesday.
Castellanos took the stand on Wednesday and met with the local Tallahassee media after practice to discuss his progression as a QB, fall camp, and preview the upcoming matchup against the Crimson Tide.
The former Boston College transfer began his availability
touching on how he feels entering his fourth season of college football and where he believes the offense stands 10 days away from the opening game of the season.
“I think (the offense) is trending up. Everybody is healthy, we’ve got all our pieces, and we’ve got the band together. Now, it’s just building that chemistry and figuring each other out.”
“For me, I feel like I’m the best I’ve ever been. I’ve got a lot of experience, but I think Coach Gus Malzahn has put me in the best position to succeed.”
Although the offense has started to come together during fall camp, Castellanos made waves on Wednesday when he mentioned the battles going on in preseason against the defense.
“I think Coach White and our defense is the hardest defense I’ll see all year, just schematically and what they do. It’s hard to be back there, and there are a lot of moving parts. But, it’s helped me be better and progress as a quarterback.”
While Castellanos’ confidence is clearly through the roof, he mentioned during his press conference that he did not feel he needed to “prove anything” and is only focused on getting Florida State back to where it belongs.
“I just want to go out here and play and have a chance to lead Florida State. I have to represent not just for me or this team but for previous players that allowed us to be here today. My job is to be here now and get this back to where Florida State football used to be. That’s my biggest goal. I just want to go out and play football, have fun with the guys, and win.”
Castellanos appears to be the leader Mike Norvell desperately needed, but the time for talking is coming to a close with the season only 10 days away.
