The Buffalo Bills have elevated two players from their practice squad this week for their game against the Los Angeles Rams. As the Bills are dealing with injuries at multiple positions, the team reinforced two of those positions via practice squad call-ups. Neither player is unfamiliar, though, as Buffalo elevated wideout Trent Sherfield Sr. and defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis for tonight’s game against the Rams.
Mathis, 28, re-signed with Buffalo in the offseason after joining the team partway through the 2025 season. Last year, he totaled 13 tackles in six games. The veteran appeared in all three of Buffalo’s preseason games this season, totaling five tackles and a sack. Thanks to an alcohol-related incident stemming from his time with the New York Jets last season, Mathis was hit with a three-game suspension to begin this season. After his suspension period ended, Mathis was released from Buffalo’s roster, but re-signed to the team’s practice squad almost immediately thereafter. He’ll be making his 2026 season debut tonight if he’s active.
Sherfield Sr., 30, also spent the offseason with Buffalo in what is his second stint with the club. The veteran caught all seven of his targets during the preseason for 76 yards in three exhibition games. He has been with Buffalo’s practice squad since he was released at the end of the preseason.
Ed Oliver and Joshua Palmer were ruled out on Friday, and with T.J. Sanders (knee/appendectomy) and DJ Moore (shoulder) also dealing with injuries, it makes sense to supplement those positional groups. With tonight’s game set to kick off at 8:15 p.m. EDT, each team’s inactive list will be official as of 6:45 p.m. EDT.
