When John Cena decided he was going to retire from WWE, it was set up in such a way that he would get a full year’s run with the company before wrapping things up at Saturday Night’s Main Event on Dec.
13 in Washington D.C. As he tells it, Cena proposed to Triple H and the rest of the creative forces within the company to allow him to give back to the company as much as possible by booking a series of exhibition matches on the undercard. This way, the stars of tomorrow from NXT would get to wrestle current major stars on the main roster as a way to showcase what all of us are in for.
They went for it, and now the full card has been put together. And, wouldn’t you know it, even a rising star from TNA managed to make the show.
Indeed, it was announced during Monday Night Raw this week that Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater would take on reigning World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Dragon Lee. This just after the champs defeated The War Raiders and were confronted by both The New Day and The Usos. They’ve got challenges coming from all sides, but the young guns have a chance to stand out in a major spot.
The full Saturday Night’s Main Event card now looks like this:
- John Cena vs. GUNTHER
- WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. NXT Champion Oba Femi
- World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs. Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater
- Bayley vs. Sol Ruca
