‘A master at work’ — What makes Vic Fangio truly unique – NBCSP
Vic Fangio has been coaching football for 47 years, and he’s been coaching in the NFL for 40. After all those years – nearly a half century teaching and coaching defense – you might think he’d be stubbornly set in his ways, inflexible and unwilling to waver or compromise, like a lot of older coaches in a lot of sports. Not Vic. One of the reasons Fangio has enjoyed sustained success is because he’s exactly the opposite. “He stays relevant because he’s good at his job (and) how he’s able to adapt with the times,” Jalyx Hunt said after walkthrough Tuesday. “He has a way he likes to play defense, but he doesn’t force players to convert their playing styles. He just uses our playing styles to the benefit of the entire defense.” All the Eagles’ defense has done in nearly two years under Fangio is allow an NFL-low 18.1 points per game, an NFC-low 298 yards per game and an NFC-low 4.89 yards per play, help the Eagles win an NFL-best 23 games (tied with the Lions and Bills) and win a Super Bowl. After a modest start this year, the Eagles’ defense has been phenomenal lately. In six games since the bye week, the Eagles are allowing just 14.3 points per game, by far the fewest in the league.
Eagles-Raiders Film Review: The offense might have an identity – BGN
It’s Week 15, but do the Eagles have an offensive identity? The last two weeks feel different. I said last week, despite the turnovers, that I was optimistic about the offense. For the first time since the bye, the Eagles looked like an offense with a clear identity rather than a collection of ideas. Yes, the Raiders suck. But I still care how the Eagles play. That’s just as important as winning the game. Let’s get into it.
Eagles-Commanders preview: 5 things to watch – PhillyVoice
2) The Eagles should have opportunities against the Commanders’ pass defense as well. Let’s first continue on with the Commanders’ linebackers, who haven’t covered well this season. Luvu’s coverage numbers are hilarious. Per PFF, he has allowed 34 receptions on 36 targets (94.4%!) for 294 yards and 4 TDs. Again, attack that fraud. Wagner has allowed 35 receptions on 45 targets (77.8%) for 475 yards and 3 TDs, though he does have 2 INTs. The Commanders have allowed 73 receptions for 905 yards and 9 TDs to opposing TEs this season. The 905 yards are sixth-worst. The 9 TDs are third-worst. This could be a Dallas Goedert game. But also, the Commanders cornerbacks are banged up, as Marshon Lattimore and second-round rookie Trey Amos are both on IR. Amos started 8 games this season. 32 tackles, 6 PBUs, 0 INTs. He was up and down this season. Too many missed tackles. He suffered a fractured fibula in November and his season is over. Lattimore looked cooked when he was healthy this season, committing 9 penalties in 9 games. He tore an ACL in November and his season is over.
Keep Tweaking – Iggles Blitz
Again, this isn’t anything groundbreaking. The coaches just needed to mix things up and use some different routes and route combinations. It is frustrating that it took this long to get things adjusted, but it is a good sign that they are making changes. These tweaks will give the defense more to look at and think about. It will give Jalen Hurts different looks and options. The goal is to be able to get the ball to the playmakers more easily. Let AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert make plays for you. Get them the ball. The run game was still a mess for part of the Raiders game, but did get going late. Maybe that was the Vegas defense wearing down. Maybe the Eagles offense finally got into a good rhythm with the running game. We’ll see how things go on Saturday in Washington. The increased running by Hurts certainly helped. If teams have to account for him, it opens up things for Saquon and the other backs.
Jalen Hurts on blocking out the criticism: ‘This isn’t my first rodeo’ – Inquirer
How was he able to drown out the scrutiny? “It’s who I am,” Hurts said. “It’s my focus. This isn’t my first rodeo, you know? So very unprecedented journey to be here. But unprecedented is unprecedented.”
Hurts has been here before. He often points to his benching at Alabama as one of the pivotal moments of his football career, one that taught him lessons of perseverance and determination. He responded emphatically to that low point, leading Alabama to victory in the SEC title game the following season and finishing as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy the season he transferred to Oklahoma. Hurts was the fifth quarterback taken in the 2020 draft — and the first to win a Super Bowl.
Jalen Hurts update, playoff bid within reach, another short week: Eight Eagles Thoughts – The Athletic
In Sirianni’s postgame speech on Sunday, he told the team they had another short week. One player was surprised. He didn’t realize that the Eagles, in fact, play a Saturday game. By this point, the Eagles are used to it. This is their fifth short week of the season, as defined by fewer than six days between games. That’s the most of the Nick Sirianni era and tied for the most in the NFL since at least 2000, joining the 2020 Bills and the 2024 Ravens.
NFL Week 16 latest buzz, questions, news and fantasy tips – ESPN
Who is the most interesting offseason trade candidate? Fowler: I have several candidates, but let’s start with A.J. Brown. The weekly concerns about Brown’s messaging — from sonnets to soundbites — must be taxing on Philadelphia’s locker room, even if players understand the receiver’s frustration due to the limitations of the Eagles’ passing attack. Several executives I spoke to believe the Eagles could look to move Brown, who’s 28 and still has prime years left. He would undoubtedly have a market. He’s due $50 million in cash over the next two years, which is manageable for a WR1. The Eagles would absorb a $20 million cap hit if he’s traded before June 1, or they could save $7 million on the cap by waiting until after June 1 to deal him. Either way, the Eagles have shown cap challenges won’t deter them (see: the Carson Wentz trade). And it seems that Brown would welcome a new passing game at this point.
Bowen: Was that actual fun the Eagles were having? Maybe try and do that again – PHLY
I get it, though. For whatever reason – whether it’s Patullo, or Hurts’ reluctance to embrace certain pass concepts, or the up-and-down play of the offensive line – this attack needs Hurts to be able to go “cheat code” here and there, as he did in darting to a third-and-12 QB-draw first down Sunday. Given the talent on hand, maybe that shouldn’t be the case, but 14 games into the season, it is. The Eagles need another game like this Saturday at the 4-10 Commanders. It won’t be 31-0 – that sort of blowout doesn’t happen much within the division, and Washington is more talented than Las Vegas — but the offense can take another step forward, building confidence and rhythm toward the postseason. Oh, and, don’t anybody get hurt.
A win on Saturday would make Eagles first team to repeat as NFC East champions since 2004 – PFT
The NFC East was created in 1967. The Cowboys have the most division titles with 25, followed by the Eagles with 13, Washington with nine, Giants with eight and St. Louis Cardinals, who were realigned out of the division in 2002, with two.

9 coaches who would make the Cowboys defense better in 2026 – Blogging The Boys
Jim Schwartz. Let’s start with the whale: Jim Schwartz is currently wrecking quarterbacks’ Sundays as the Browns defensive coordinator. Getting him to Dallas would not exactly be easy. That said, the Browns are 3-11 and rumors continue to persist around head coach Kevin Stefanski’s job security. If he gets fired, Schwartz would be very available. Even if Stefanski sticks around, he may opt to shake up his staff, or Schwartz may want to jump ship for somewhere more stable. The Cowboys aren’t exactly the model of stability, but Brian Schottenheimer has earned plenty of good will by now, and Schwartz would immediately be welcomed warmly. Schwartz’s scheme would also mesh well with the current roster. He cut his teeth under Jeff Fisher and Gregg Williams, and emphasizes physicality and aggression over everything. Schwartz loves playing press man coverage and, while not blitz-happy, his Browns do currently rank 10th in blitz rate. He’s more selective with his blitzes, like Mike Zimmer last year, but uses simulated pressures to find ways to win with four. Stealing Schwartz away from the Browns would be as close to a home run as the Cowboys could get. His track record on defense is impeccable, and he was named the Assistant Coach of the Year back in 2023, his first year with the Browns. [BLG Note: It would suck if the Cowboys hired Schwartz.]
Did Adam Peters’ 2025 Roster Decisions Set the Commanders Back? – Hogs Haven
For all the hype and fanfare when Adam Peters arrived in D.C., his results have been a VERY mixed bag. With a mindset of building through the draft, Peters has liquidated the Commanders draft picks through trades, making his mission of doing so much tougher. Washington is without a second and fourth in April’s draft and Peters will need to supplement, and do so SMARTLY, in free agency, to rebuild this roster with talent and youth. Year three will be big for the 46-year-old who studied under some of the game’s best. Can Peters turn the franchise around and get Washington back into playoff contention moving forward, or did some of the past decisions set this team back another two-to-three years? Only time will tell…
Giants-Vikings odds, Week 16: New York expected to lose ninth straight – Big Blue View
The 2-12 New York Giants have lost eight straight games. Oddsmakers think that streak will reach nine against the Minnesota Vikings in NFL Week 16, with FanDuel Sportsbook establishing the Vikings as 2.5-point favorites. Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET game is at MetLife Stadium. The half-empty stadium and apathetic crowd at MetLife in last week’s loss to the Washington Commanders, being at home won’t be much of an advantage for the Giants against Minnesota.
Rams vs. Seahawks is the most important Thursday Night Football game of the year – SB Nation
It’s not often that Thursday Night Football gives us the game of the week, but here we are. The Los Angeles Rams travel to face the Seattle Seahawks, and it’s a game with huge implications not just for who could end up with the NFC West crown, but potentially the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, with home field advantage being the prize at the end. With both teams sitting at 11-3 there’s so much on the line. The winner will functionally need to botch their last two games of the season not to end up with the top seed, while the loser will be on the road in the opening round of the playoffs. Let’s dive into the scenarios for this big game.
