One does wonder if teams didn’t quite manage to adjust to the earlier than usual closing times for the transfer window yesterday (7pm instead of the traditional 11pm), as we have reports of another deal collapsing in the final hours.
David Datro Fofana had chosen newly promoted Championship side Charlton Athletic over perennial Scottish Premier League powerhouse Celtic on Deadline Day, but The Addicks failed to submit their paperwork on time to get the two-hour extension, and thus the move fell through.
Ironically, had the 22-year-old striker gone with the Celtic option, there would’ve been an extra four hours available to close the deal as the SPL window had stayed with the familiar 11pm closing time.
So, as things stand, DDF is stuck in the Bomb Squad™ alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi, who also failed to secure moves away, though a few viable leagues are still open for potential deals, including the top divisions in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Greece, and the Netherlands. Fofana spent the first part of last season on loan at Göztepe in the Süper Lig, scoring two goals in nine appearances, before missing the entire second half of the season with injury.
