Here was one of the first surprises of the NFL Draft. With their second pick of the fourth round, the New Orleans Saints selected WR Bryce Lance. After picking Jordyn Tyson in the first round, the Saints’ receiver room looked like it was in a great spot, but the Lance addition makes it even better.
At North Dakota State, Lance has been an excellent WR. He won’t be an elite WR who can take over games and lead a team to wins, but he is an excellent deep threat, a big-play waiting to happen. His speed
makes him such a fun weapon in Kellen Moore’s offense, and Lance can be in that Rashid Shaheed role right away. The good part about that is he won’t need a large workload and can stay in that WR4 spot.
Injuries on the Saints roster also have to be taken into consideration with this selection. Chris Olave, Devaugn Vele, and Jordyn Tyson have had injuries throughout their careers, and if one goes down, the Saints need to have good depth just in case.
Now, Lance can step in when needed and be a really good WR for New Orleans. Also, Vele is out of contract in 2028, so we could be looking at his long-term replacement.
