It’s been far too long since a Seattle sports team got on the field, but the Seattle Seahawks are just a few days from kicking off the second half of their season.
As they head out to Washington to face the Commanders on Sunday night, their opponents are headed towards a swap of their star wide receiver in exchange for their star quarterback.
It is confirmed WR Terry McLaurin is out; and presumed QB Jayden Daniels is in.
Not exactly sure whether this is an improvement for Washington or not; at least not this year. If I had to pick on the spot, it’s hard to say someone other than McLaurin is their best player. Every 2024 rookie QB has regressed except Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels is squarely in that mix.
Daniels has played in three games this year without McLaurin, in which he had completion percentages of 57, 73, and 54. He’s thrown only one interception but has fumbled three times and is scrambling at a fairly high rate (9 times per game) without excessive success. Last season, Daniels had 10 games of 39 or more rushing yards. This season, he’s got two. Only one game without McLaurin.
Seattle might not actually get Julian Love back, which is potentially a huge disappointment. But the team looks to field Nick Emmanwori and Devon Witherspoon for just the second time. Those two will go a long way in keeping Daniels contained, while shutting down what is already a poor passing game. The Commanders have a negative expected points added on passing plays this season, which is, well, not ideal.
