The final score doesn’t tell the whole story, but Illinois beat Duke by 26 points on Saturday in Durham (45-19).
And some of the stats, as laid out by Illini Stats and Notes, are shocking.
Let’s start with
Gabe Jacas, who is making a name for himself in Illinois’ record books. He is now in fifth place all-time, and has a reasonably shot at getting to No. 2 by season’s end. It would take a truly monumental effort to match Simeon Rice, but No. 2 all-time is pretty good for the future pro.
If we’re talking future pros, what about this guy? Hank Beatty has been electric through two weeks, scoring and gaining yards every way possible. He waited for his big moment with the Illini, and it’s paying off.
And then there’s Bret.
Not only the fourth-fastest to 30 wins with Illinois (and his situation was much more dire than anyone else’s ever)…
But the third-best winning percentage for an Illinois coach with 30+ wins, behind a couple greats, including the guy whose name is on the field at Memorial Stadium.
Ten more wins sound good to everyone?
