The Washington Commanders held their final practice of the week today before they travel to Missouri for a Monday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that
QB Jayden Daniels wouldn’t play this week on Thursday, saying he would focus on recovering from a hamstring injury this week. Marcus Mariota will get the start, filling in for Daniels’ second injury of the season.
Quinn spoke to reporters after today’s short practice, and said the team was excited to get WRs Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel back on the field Monday night. Both players got their first full week of practice in since getting injured, and neither has an injury designation for Monday night. McLaurin suffered a quad injury during the Week 3 game against the Raiders, and hadn’t practiced since. He talked about his hold out/in, and getting back into game shape, only to suffer an injury, after yesterday’s practice. Samuel played through a heel injury for two weeks, before missing last week’s game. He has been limited, or sitting out of most practices, and a full week of practice is a good sign for his recovery from the injury.
Sam Cosmi returned to the lineup on Sunday, his first game since tearing his ACL in a divisional round playoffs victory over the Detroit Lions in January. He started and played the entire game at right guard. He was on Thursday’s report with a back injury, but was a full participant the last two days. LB Bobby Wagner is listed with a new thumb injury, but practiced fully all week.
Daron Payne is listed as questionable with a toe injury that Dan Quinn said he was working through. He was listed with a vet rest day on Thursday, but has missed the rest of the week due to the new injury. This sounds like it will be a game-time decision.
Matt Gay is also listed as questionable for Monday night’s game. He wasn’t on the injury report until today, and he’s listed with a back injury. The Commanders do not have another kicker on the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
