At one point in his long career, Mike Krzyzewski had to make a hire, and he thought it would be a good idea to bring in an older coach. And then he realized that he was the older coach.
Jon Scheyer is decidedly on the other end of that. Still just 38 – he won’t turn 39 until August – he could probably still practice with his team to some extent. We’re not saying that he’d be at the same level as they are, but he would still be competent.
This video from last season underscores that nicely, and also
gives a great insight into how he relates to his players.
On the one hand, he shows he can still shoot. On the other, he turns this into a trust/faith building session. What an interesting question to ask. What a smart question to ask.
