Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović is his own harshest critic.
After Tuesday’s 2-1 Champions League win over Real Madrid, the 21-year-old was quick to point to his own mistakes early in the contest. However, though the sledding got tougher as the game went on, Pavlović grew stronger too — and his team needed him to be.
The performance left an impression on his head coach, who attributed Pavlović’s mentality and determination to his roots at the club.
“Just like Thomas Müller or Lennart Karl
for example, Pavlo is a player from the Bayern youth set-up, they don’t fear anything,” Kompany said afterwards (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “You can always be honest and open with them. If he says about his first half that it wasn’t that good — okay. If you make two or three bad passes, the question is: how willing were you to run, to fight for the team? That’s always a 10 out of 10 with Pavlo, and he wasn’t the only one. Although we did something phenomenal, we can still be better.”
Bayern will have the chance to turn it up a notch this coming week — and finish the job against Real Madrid.
