Robin Roefs: 5/10
Did well to tip a free kick around the post in the first half but nowhere near the three goals and his kicking seems to have deserted him.
Trai Hume: 3/10
Started the home side on their way with an extremely lazy attempt at a clearance, which hit O’Nien and gave Coventry their first. Struggle to think anything positive from him this afternoon.
Luke O’Nien: 4/10
Got caught napping on the ball in the first half as Coventry stole the ball and made it two. Tried to get us back in it when the game had gone, winning the penalty and having
quite a few touches and shot in the opposition box
Omar Alderete: 2/10
Steered what looked like a harmless shot past Roefs for the third goal and he and O’Nien just don’t seem a natural fit together. Got himself booked late on after giving the ball away and trying but failing to recover and then did it again shortly afterwards to get himself sent off.
Reinildo: 5/10
A relatively quiet game, with Coventry targeting the other side of Sunderland’s defence and unlike the other 3 starters in the back four, wasn’t at fault for any of the goals.
Granit Xhaka (C): 3/10
Looks very laboured on and off the ball at the moment, his passing isn’t as snappy and looks like he struggles to get back quickly.
Noah Sadiki: 4/10
Got around the pitch but don’t think he provided much cover for the defence, which was often exposed and very little going at the other end too.
Chris Rigg: 4/10
Managed to get a few shots off around the Coventry box, which is more than what most of his teammates did. Did very little else though
Enzo Le Fee: 5/10
Took the penalty well but spent far too much of the game deep alongside Xhaka and Sadiki, rather than close to Brobbey where he’d be most effective.
Nilson Angulo: 3/10
The ball found him with space to run into a few times but he consistently slowed the play down and allowed the home side to get back.
Bryan Brobbey: 5/10
I thought he used the ball well on the rare occasion when we got it to him but when that did happen, there was rarely anyone close to him. Probably should have scored in the first half when Xhaka slipped him in.
Substitutes
Wilson Isidor: 5/10
Slipped in Talbi shortly after coming on and that should have led to a goal. Did OK after coming on and provided extra pace and support for Brobbey.
Chemsdine Talbi: 5/10
Should have scored when Isidor fed him and also missed a free Brobbey at the back post. We looked better after his arrival out wide though.
Thomas Meunier: 5/10
Used the ball well and showed his experience at the back when Coventry tried to get past him.
Malick Fofana: 4/10
Some more extra pace out wide but no end product.
Man of the Match: Enzo Le Fee
My man of the match was Enzo Le Fee, purely for scoring the penalty. Passed the ball well but it was far too deep and in ineffectual areas when we needed him high up and around an extremely isolated Brobbey.
