Atlético Madrid chief executive officer Miguel Angel Gil has issued a very strong statement on Julian Alvarez and says the club will not sell the Argentina star this summer.
Gil says that Atletico will not accept Barcelona’s offer of €100 million and are not willing to sell even if the Catalans double their bid for the forward this summer.
“My opinion is clear, the club’s will is clear, we have made this clear to the player and his agent, and to the president of Barça,” he told the club’s media.
“I
have no doubt that Atlético is the right place in the world for Julián, and Julián is the perfect striker for Atlético de Madrid. We want to keep him.
“I simply heard some statements from the president, saying that his offer wasn’t open-ended. And our response is that our response is indeed open-ended; we don’t want to transfer him.
“We didn’t accept the €100 million offer, nor will we accept one of €150 million or €200 million.”
Alvarez has said he wants to leave Atletico but it remains to be seen if he will be granted his wish. As for Barca, they need to decide whether to keep pushing for Alvarez or look elsewhere.
